What are clopidogrel (Plavix) side effects?

Common side effects of clopidogrel are listed below. Please tell your doctor if these adverse effects are severe or do not go away after a few days.

  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach pain
  • Nosebleed


Some of the adverse reactions of clopidogrel can be more serious. Please call your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • Hives, rash, itching, or other signs of an allergic reaction
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Swelling of the face, hands, or feet
  • Hoarseness
  • Blood in vomit
  • Vomit that resembles coffee grounds
  • Blood in stools
  • Dark-colored or tarry stools
  • Weakness
  • Numbness
  • Problems with speech
  • Problems with vision
  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Bleeding under the skin or purple patches on the skin
  • Pale skin
  • Yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes
  • Confusion 
  • Seizures

Clopidogrel overdose: In case of a known or suspected overdose of clopidogrel, get emergency medical help right away, call your local poison control center, or call the national poison helpline at 1-800-222-1222. Symptoms of a clopidogrel overdose can include unusual bruising or active bleeding that does not stop.
